Dorian Gray
03:50
|
|||
all the catalysts in white
toss their sins into the backdrop badlands sky
which hover just outside heaven’s gate
and wait patiently for them to die
lost souls fear the devil
but the wise ones don’t, they all sing
for all anybody knows there could be worse things
there was a man down the road called Dorian Grey
he kept a portrait of himself in his closet, he kept it safe
until one day he met his own eyes, met the monster with disgust
and just like that he was a pile of dust
proud souls fear themselves
but the wise ones don’t, they all say
I am only everything that I am meant to be until my dying day
now the wheels are spinning and the lights go out
and the raindrops seek out the simplest route
and she who tries her hand and fails each time she goes
will soon be amazed by what she knows
cold souls will fear the world
but the lovers don’t, we all sing
after all the things that I have seen I could conquer anything

Follow Me Down
04:50
|

down on the shores of Lake Michigan
I found my way to the priestess
she said up on the peak of Rubidoux
the angels all know they are godless
they bend at their knees, sing for whom was I made
and keep giving the mountains their sermon
but for all of their flying and all of their light
they really are just so human
I made my way through Appalachia
and all of those deserts out west
I laid down my mind, quit trying to hide
how desperately I need my sadness
but in the springtime’s rebirth, when the stars fall to earth
and set fires in wandering souls
I pick up my feet, pack what I want to keep
shove the boulder and watch how it rolls
I am exactly where I said I’d be going
I’m just where I said I’d be
the trees on the shoreline, the wind on the road
have made a wanderer out of me
do you see the flowers in the fields of the great plains states?
do you see the moon pulling waves across the great lakes?
do you sleep soundly in the desert where the world has no sound?
follow me sisters and brothers, follow me down
So pick up the road, take all that I’ve got
you won’t be stopping me now
because one day I heard that sweet whisper of freedom
and I’ll never forget the sound
and I am exactly where I said I’d be going
I’m just where I said I’d be
the trees on the shoreline, the wind on the road
have made a wanderer out of me
the trees on the shoreline, the wind on the road
have made a wanderer out of me

The Waltz
05:02
|
|||
when I was young I took the oak by the hand
made me a blistering palm and then I made myself better with it
and I was never good at letting go
but I learned how
so don’t give me the lessons of anybody else
don’t show me the record don’t tell me where they fell
if I’m to learn anything I’ll learn it myself
and if I’m to go my own way I’ll go it like hell
here we are singing the same sad little songs
but everything’s different we’re tapping new prints in the ground
and each day is a dream I could wake from if I closed my eyes
and the world sings on anyway, some lullaby.
so open your eyes and touch with your hands
let the sky snap back at you like a blue rubber band
don’t you go anywhere you don’t want to go
and if someone is wronging you tell them so

Lineage
03:09
|
|||
why are we counting down to our deaths
when we’ve got so much life inside of us
just take a moment
sometimes the world presses its palm against the window
and things get a little bit rough
but I know it’s passing
cause my mother used to tell me
there is life beyond everything you lose
and my father used to tell me
right or wrong be proud of what you choose
now I am aware that there are people out there
who would kick me down and shoot me full of bullets
and they’re not going away
but I will remain, they can bare their teeth
but they can’t take the soul away from me
no I am not afraid
cause my brother used to tell me
do not fear death and he just might fear you
and my sister used to tell me
tread carefully and you will end up a fool
I love the sun as much as anyone does
it can make you feel like you will never die
and I love the feeling
but once in a while I like a thunderstorm to come along
remind us that we’re all just animals
regardless of everything
and my little brother mocked me
when I told him that rain could clear his head
but maybe somewhere down the line
he will sit and ponder all the things I said
